Happy Second Anniversary! (And introducing a new feature…)

Well, we’ve been doing this for two years, and I’ve got to say… this comic takes as much effort as it looks!

Still, if there’s one thing I pride myself on, it’s being an innovator, and you can definitely see it in the comics, if not everything else I’ve done — from Last Resort jewelry made out of Shrinky Dinks to little virtual window-sitting animated mascots, there’s plenty of stuff that never reaches the public eye because I don’t know what to do with it, or how to get enough people like you interested in it.

Until today.

Introducing LastRes0rtr, the first (and as far as I know, only) Twitter Combat Game!

lastres0rtr_blog

It’s not quite ready for release yet (I still need to find some willing participants), but this is exactly what it sounds like: Finally, you can take on your friends and other twitter users for fame, fortune… and a little risk on the side, just like your favorite players from the comic! In the meantime, while we’re still gearing up the LastRes0rtr account, check out the FAQ:

Okay… WHAT is LastRes0rtr?

LastRes0rtr is the newest Twitter Combat Game, based on the webcomic Last Res0rt. You can challenge your friends on Twitter, fight each other by using the exact same sorts of Tweets you would post any other day of the week.  At the end of day though, someone has to lose… and their account will pay the price!

… You’re making an application that could kill my Twitter account?!

No. I’m making an application that, if you lose, will allow the winner to do all sorts of…  interesting things to your account. Here’s a short list of some of the possible consequences:

  • You could have your account muted for at least 24 hours.
  • You could randomly have one or more of your account’s friends removed (and good luck figuring out which one!)
  • The winner could post one or more humiliating tweets from your account, making it look like you said something REALLY offensive, stupid, or both!

Note the language there. The worse you lose, the more the winner can do to wreak havoc with your account!

Why would I play a game with such ridiculously awful consequences?

Winners get promoted within the LastRes0rtr system, allowing veteran players to rack up special Twamunition to keep them ahead of the game; the top players will be advertised and recommended to new players, helping you rack up followers and influence.

Oh, and that’s on top of the benefits of being able to mess with other people’s twitter accounts every time you win.

How does this work? Won’t this interfere with my normal Tweeting?

You can keep on tweeting as normal while you play LastRes0rtr. Here’s how it works:

  1. You and a friend sign up to play a match on LastRes0rtr for the following day, and entrust the service (briefly!) with your account information, and confirm that you do, in fact, want to play against this person.
  2. For the next 24 hours after confirmation, combat begins! LastRes0rtr counts lots of different things, including tweet velocity (the time it takes between your tweets and your opponent’s tweets), replies, retweets, direct messages, and new followers you pick up (or lose!) during that time period. We can’t tell you which ones count more than others, but let’s just say it can’t hurt to have as many of each as possible!
  3. After the game, we’ll show you a recap of the match, and reveal the winner based on our algorithms. If you’re the winner, you get to decide what to do (and how much to do) to your defeated opponent’s account!

But what if I don’t want these things to happen to my account when I lose?

You can always play against a friend, and trust each other not to do anything stupid to each other’s account. The winner always has the option to just let the loser go without any further conseuquences, or otherwise go easy on them. This way, you can practice or otherwise plead with other users while you’re learning the ropes.

How much longer until LastRes0rtr is released?

We’re still gathering up beta testers to try out LastRes0rtr and finish tweaking the combat algorithms. If you’re willing to try this out, either leave a comment here or follow LastRes0rtr on twitter!

Pictures – We have ’em, we need ’em!

I promised y’all some pictures of Jigsaw at Furry Weekend Atlanta (along with all the fans we could convince to play along with us), and they’re here! There may have been a few issues on uploading though… if you remember getting your picture taken but don’t see your face included here, please send me an email so I can fix that.

Speaking of pictures, next Wednesday is a very special day… it’s Last Res0rt’s 2nd Anniversary! If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to draw up some fanart or try your hand at a guest strip, now’s a good time to send it in before Wednesday (April 1, 2009 … yeah, I know, I know) so I can post it and we can all enjoy it.

I had a blast at this weekend’s convention, and for those of you lucky enough to take pictures with Jigsaw: they’ll be up within the week, with any luck.

In the meantime, don’t forget to say hello in the comments, especially if you’re someone new who just found out about Last Resort at this weekend’s convention. 🙂 You guys rock!

Hel-lo MomoCon! (And Furry Weekend Atlanta, while we’re at it)

fwa-dealersThis is just a quick post letting everyone know I’m back and the con went great! I’ll probably do a full review of the convention once I get Furry Weekend Atlanta done and dusted.

Speaking of which…

Yeah, I’m nuts; I’m doing Furry Weekend Atlanta right after MomoCon. The good news is, I’ve got a nice big grid of the Dealer’s Den, so I can show you where I am to make it easier to find me. (I’m not sure where this spot is, so it’s one of the back corners … and I feel like I should recognize at least some of these folks… )

Oh well, I’ll figure it out. 😉

New MomoCon Visitors: Do me a favor and leave a comment to say hello, would you? I’d really appreciate it, especially as more than a few of you haven’t seen the site since the new look came out, and hey, leaving comments is always good.

Last Res0rt at MomoCon, March 14-15!

Okay, folks: this is it!

MomoCon
is happening this weekend, March 14-15 (for those of you who’re chronologically challenged, that’s this Saturday and Sunday — don’t show up Friday unless you like being mistaken for slave labor a volunteer), at the Georgia Tech Student Center. They’re running with a nifty Sci-Fi theme, which of course means Last Res0rt ought to fit right in.

Artist’s Alley is split up into two places, and Last Res0rt’ll be in Room 343 — this is where Artist’s Alley was last year as well, but now it’s just one of many rooms. If you can’t find me, make sure you’re not in the other alley by mistake. There’ll be lots of great new merchandise available as well as commissions (and if you’ve been dragging your feet on ordering anything… well, you’ll get to see all the other cool new commissions I’ve been working on that aren’t yours, and no, not all of ’em have been posted for viewing online yet, but yes, they are you’ll-be-kicking-yourself awesome.)

Either way, admission to the con is free, so if you’re in the area, go ahead and stop on by!
