@lava: Strictly speaking, no, we don’t know it for certain. We only have Rei’s word on it. Same way we don’t know if she’s being honest about helping the Talmi free themselves (though, I assume that her story jives enough with what ‘Saw knows to be plausible). It is possible that Rei’s offered more proof than we’ve seen, or, at least provided enough that ‘Saw was willing to tell her bedtime story, and we’re supposed to take it on faith on ‘Saw’s say so. Yay, unreliable narrator!

On the other hand, we do know that Full Celeste are rare to the point of myth, so that does jive with the “last nine,” and if they are that rare, something did hit them, but left several million mutts, so her “rise of the half-Celeste” hangs together, and implies, if not a war, then some other interstellar tragedy. Given all that, I give the rest of her story a pass until we can try to verify it…

@The_Rippy_One: The Celeste claim to have saved the universe, but can this claim be verified? And assuming that the did save the universe, Did they so because they cared about the universe and all those within it, or was it just to save their own species?

On the Full Celeste: Is it self-entitled if they literally faced extinction fighting to save the universe? I’d given them decent benefits for the rest of their endless lives for something like that (and by benes, I don’t mean strapped to a ship’s inner bulkhead by several lengths of metal cord. Unless they asked. Half-Celeste are really ungrateful bastards [in every sense of the term], aren’t they?).

@lava: Yeah, the half-Celeste are self-entitled jerks – but I don’t know how long ago the Ziligo/Celigo conquest occurred – Veled’s only been in charge for twenty years, right? I want to say I saw that somewhere. Given that she was Ziligo’s scout for longer then that (Fenirel’s friend->year of fear 25 years ago), I sort of assumed the coup (or what ever it actually was. My bets on yet another Xanatos pile-up, with Cypress’s mum in the middle of it, given http://www.lastres0rt.com/2011/06/i-think-johnny-cash-wrote-a-song-about-this/ and maybe http://www.lastres0rt.com/2008/11/showering-is-honestly-very-important/ ), I sort of doubt Veled was directly responsible for that debacle, though I’d bet said debacle lead to her eventual rise (or inspired her to try, if only because it was such a mess that it offended her sense of order).

@e_voyager: You are right about her keeping her planet at peace for 20 years, but I don’t think this is necessarily a sign of benevolence on her part. Her species did occupy and rename an entire planet, after all. She seems very capable for someone who is insane though – maybe she some if it is just for show?

funny i had a comment with two different HTML links but it’s not showing up still the one that Sulucamas has up looks good. and Veled could be insane but her insanity seems to be bent around keeping her planet at peace like she’d done for the past what 20 years i think

She strikes me as being a typical Celeste – want’s the Celeste to be the dictators of the universe, or at least the most powerful in the universe. Oh sure she has some secret agendas which are revealed in Last Res0rt – First Against the Wall (Artist Edition), but those agendas don’t appear to conflict with the “dictators of the universe” thing.

No shell, no shattering. :P It would break their deal, and I think it'd be fun to see just what would happen. :o @Lavabat: Are you proposing that Veled's *gasp* insane? ;) If there's more than one Whimser in the same place, I'd guess their Whimsies would just...overlap? At the end of the day, Daisy's trying to (somehow) use the Whimser to her advantage, so I guess finding one would be as good as finding another? (I always thought the Wordpress Codex was pretty helpful, but I think it works fine if you just copy and paste your links.)
